Truvada, Viread, Complera, Stribild, and Atripla are prescription antiretroviral medications created by the manufacturer- Gilead Sciences, Inc. and are used to treat retroviruses especially HIV. These drugs contain the dangerous ingredient tenofovir disoproxil (TDF). For HIV positive patients’ renal failure is a common side effect however drugs made with TDF increase this risk. Drugs containing TDF clog the filtration function of kidneys, and over time create side effects such as kidney failure and renal impairment.
